The Light Fantastic picks up right where The Colour of Magic left off with Rincewind falling off the edge of the Disc. The Octavo saves him so as not to lose one of the eight great spells that has been stuck in Rincewind's head since before he was kicked out of Unseen University. But it turns out that the Discworld is in danger. An ominous red star has appeared in the sky, and magic has become unreliable as the Great A'Tuin travels further into the shores of reality. The eight spells of the Octavo need to be said, precisely at the right time, in order to save the Discworld, but will Rincewind and Twoflower be able to return to the Unseen University in time to say them?
